Shooting a commercial for VISA. We produced the following commercial spot for a San Francisco-based fintech firm, TrialPay, that was acquired by VISA. Our video helped promote the launch of their new b2b mobile product.

Here is our awesome crew on a huge stage in Los Angeles. Recording on an Arri Alexa, we came armed with a full crew: Executive Producer, Director, Line Producer, Director of Photography, 1st Assistant Camera Operator, 1st AD, Key Grip, Best Boy Grip, Gaffer, Best Boy Electric, Wardrobe, Makeup, Key PA, Additional Set PA, Office PA, Production Designer, Art PA, Art Assistant and another Art Assistant. Plus twenty actors and actresses. And of course our awesome Client!!

Steadycam Shoot in DTLA

Here we are shooting a new project on the streets of downtown Los Angeles for an awesome repeat client. Pictured here, part of our cast and set design for a recent shoot on a sound stage in Los Angeles. We are in production on a commercial spot for a Silicon Valley-based technology film that is launching a new b2b mobile product. Interviews for Audi

We’re setting up for executive interviews with one of the heads of marketing at Audi North America. You can see the Director of Photography standing behind two cameras. One camera is on a tripod with a teleprompter rig in front of it. The other camera is housed inside a Ronin gimbal setup, ready to capture a second angle. The client is looking at the client monitors checking angles and framing. And the audio tech is testing levels. The subject is out of Hair & Make Up and is ready to go. He’s sitting on the coach underneath the boom microphone. Off camera are the rest of the clients, producers, stylists, production assistants and the script supervisor. The day went off without a hitch.

Auto Video Production

Pictured here is an autonomous vehicle ready to roll. The van solves last-mile deliveries. It’s also fully electric. Brave new world! We chased and live-streamed the vehicle making deliveries around San Mateo via a cellular streaming technology provider. 100 press and Silicon Valley dignitaries attended and watched the feed. This was the post-event photo op for the vehicle.

Video Production LA

Pictured here is our Sound Mixer in front of the Camera and Art Departments, plus our Stand In. We shot 2 :15 second and 2 :30 second spots for a Fortune 500 consumer packaged goods company.

Behind the wall is the rest of our crew: Producer, Director, Talent, Animal Wranglers, First Assistant Director, 2nd Assistant Director, Production Manager, Production Coordinator, Script Supervisor, Electricians, Production Assistants. It was a long day, but a great shoot.

Video Shoot in Oakland

Working with a full crew, we just shot an awesome project with none other than, Ayesha Curry, for GoDaddy. Pictured on camera below is our stand-in. Shooting twin ARRI AMIRAs, our VTR tech is serving up two streams for client land. And Steph showed up midway through our shoot day.

We packed 85+ on set that day.

P&G and Disney

We just delivered a promo video project for P&G and Disney in association with a partner agency, Gel Communications, in Los Angels. The video was produced to promote a new iPhone and Android app to help parents get their kids to brush longer.

To help parents encourage kids to brush their teeth longer, Oral-B, a division of P&G, and Walt Disney partnered together to develop an innovative solution. They created and launched the Disney Magic Timer app for iPhone and Android. Magic Timer is the first-ever application with licensed Disney and Marvel characters proven effective at extending brushing time. Using augmented reality, Magic Timer recognizes 16 character images on over 50 Oral-B Stages Disney and Marvel products, and then brings those characters to life. Apple recognized the product as “Best New App for Kids.” And Magic Timer became the #1 downloaded free app for kids 6 to 8 in the US, and 14 other markets. Total downloads exceeded 360,000 for the first 8 weeks of release.

Capitola Media storyboarded, wrote, produced and post produced this promotional sizzle video in just five days. Motion graphics included.

ARRI Alexa

Our Director of Photography and Gaffer hung this pretty setup for a recent shoot. We’ve taken over a small house in the Los Angeles suburbs. Here we are in the living room of our location . Our talent is getting in the zone, as the rest of the crew makes last-minute tweaks for the final shot of the day.

We shot with the Arriflex ARRI Alexa Mini. It boasts a 35 mm format film-style digital camera with lightweight and compact carbon body. It shoots 3.2K: 3200 x 1800 (3424 x 1926) and 4K UHD: 3200 x 1800 (3424 x 1926), with 14 stops over the entire sensitivity range from EI 160 to EI 3200. Lenses fit via Titanium PL mounts with L-Bus connector and LDS EF mounts. We shot with beautiful Cooke prime lenses.

Study Ace

Capitola Media recently wrapped a product-launch video project for StudyAce. Collaborating with the client from initial concept through pre-production, production, post-production and final delivery, we helped create a launch video for a new educational / edtech app.

StudyAce uses learning games, flashcards and practice tests to improve students’ comprehension of course materials. StudyAce amplifies the learning of textbooks, educational videos, ebooks and online tools. Working with existing curriculum, their platform increases student engagement through learning games, flashcards and practice tests.

Here you can see our DP directing the Gaffer to adjust an HMI light. A grip adjusts a scrim outside. A silk hangs from a frame. The talent is ready, and the camera, a RED EPIC, is set to shoot 5k resolution.

Stand Up Interviews

Our Stand-In marks the spot for executive interviews with the founder of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University, California. Soon to take that spot will be Mike Markkula. He was an angel investor and second CEO of Apple Computer. Our stand-in has sound blankets beneath her feet to muffle the echo of her voice. The boom microphone hangs just above her head. Our Director of Photography has positioned A Camera just in front of her. B Camera is off to the right, out of frame. And our Gaffer has hung a 4×4 silk to soften the sunlight on our subject. We’re awaiting our talent who, as you’d image, has a busy schedule.

Video Production LA

Our principal actress is on her mark. The Director of Photography is ready. The 2nd Assistant Camera Operator is ready to follow focus, as our lead exits our awesome location.

Working with Sony’s FS7 with its Super 35mm Single-Chip Exmor CMOS. Shooting UHD 16:9 3840 (H) x 2160 (V)!

And here were are setting up the camera for a stabilized car shot on the same shoot.

Steadicam

We recently shot on a sunny day in Oakland with a full steadicam rig.

We mounted a GoPro to the shoulder of the camera operator to give you a behind-the-scenes look of one take from our shoot. Seen here is a GPI PRO Gen 1 Sled Steadicam rig with a Canon C300 Mark II 4K video camera. You’ll also note our actress, grip shielding the actress from direct sun, remote focus puller / assistant camera operator, and slate girl who seconds as a background extra walking past the scene.

Then we broke for lunch at the Brown Sugar Cafe for some ribs and iced tea.

30-Second Commercial

Working with a complete crew, we are shooting two 30 second spots for a packaged good company. Pictured here are the Talent, Director of Photography, Assistant Cameraman, Key Grip, Electrician and Art Director. We shot using the REDEpic camera with a series of prime lenses. Our Producer and Location Manager helped us find an awesome mansion to shoot in and around in Los Angeles. It was a tight fit in the kitchen for this particular setup. The lovely owner treated us to homemade gin and tonics after we wrapped.

1st Class

Here we are shooting inside a warehouse in North Hollywood. We re-created the first class section of a commercial jet for a shoot for a Fortune 500 client. Awesome cast, crew and client. Oh, and we were shooting with an Arri Alexa.

Here we are location scouting Levis Stadium for an upcoming shoot. What camera angles are best? Can we make the stands look full with just 40 extras. What time of day should we make call time?
